The Blackstone Valley is
comprised of 24 communities, from Worcester MA south to Pawtucket, RI.
It is the birthplace of America's Industrial Revolution. Its 10,000
historic sites, including Samuel Slater's mill (1793), the first to use
water power transformed America. It is also a National Heritage
Corridor, started in 1986, to federally invest in revitalization of
America's "hardest working river, the Blackstone, and to interpret the
profound history of transportation, our rich cultural and diverse
heritage as the center of immigration to produce labor for the mills, to
build the Blackstone canal and to play a significant role in American
history over the centuries from King Philip's War to Robert Goddard's
rocketry.
We live in a sleepy wonderland, though challenged by tremendous
residential growth and altered landscapes. Yet much is still intact,
from farm to factory. Our history is magnificent and noble, though
sometimes cranky and independent. The Arts are coming alive and the
antiques, dining and fun is there waiting - if you just know where to
look!! Come enjoy our recreational bike paths, profound history and
unique villages. Dig a little to understand our uniqueness, our small
shops, our origins and history in each one of our communities while
realizing the potential to develop this region into an authentic tourist
destination. Welcome all~ tborough |
